Nairobi, Kenya: December 13 has been declared a public holiday to facilitate celebrations to mark Kenya’s 50 years of independence.
Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Arts Hassan Wario said President Uhuru Kenyatta had awarded all Kenyans with a public holiday on December 13th though the main events are scheduled to start on the 11th of December .
“The main state celebrations would take place at the Moi international Sports Centre at Kasarani on 12thof December and a music concert organized in partnership with Safaricom will close the celebrations on 13th at the same venue” he said.
He urged Kenyans to turn up in large numbers to the Celebratory activities set to take place over the three days.
Wario was speaking at Moi International Sports centre, Kasarani where he held a briefing with members of the press.
The CS noted that they were expecting at least 20 African Heads of state to grace the Golden Jubilee celebrations of which 10 had already confirmed their attendance.
With a capacity of approximately 50,000 and 60, 000 for Uhuru Gardens Memorial Park and the Moi international Sports Centre respectively, Wario said that the venues selected for the celebratory activities were adequate enough to host the large numbers expected.
He also said security will be beefed up in and around the venues.
“We Should also expect the Military to take part in the celebrations as they have done so in the past,” he reiterated.
