Lakers Hockey Club will be seeking to kick off their Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Women’s Premier League campaign on a winning note when they host USIU-A women at Simba Club in Kisumu from 10am on Sunday morning.

Boosted with five new signings, the Lakeside team is targeting a top two finish after finishing fourth during their debut campaign in 2019. The 2020 and 2020 seasons were not played due to Covid-19.

Lakers have signed two midfielders, a forward, striker and goalkeeper heading into the 2022 season.

The new signings are Eusyla Cherotich and Fransica Jeruto Koros both from Moi University, Purity Aseyo from Bondo University,

Despite not playing any competitive hockey for the past two years, Lakers team manager John Paul Otieno said they are ready for the challenge.

“This is going to be our first match after the 2019 season, it has been a long time and the good thing is my ladies have been training smart to keep their fitness.”

“USIU-A is a team we have played in the past but this time round we are going to approach the game in a tactical way because they are a good team and if we make mistakes it will cost us, we have played them before and we are going for a win.,” said Otieno.

In Nairobi, defending champions will host Dutch Flower Group Wolverines at City Park.
