Kenya national women's hockey team on Saturday won bronze at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Zimbabwe women 3-1 on penalties.

The two sides were unable to break the deadlock during the 60 minutes regular time forcing the game to go to a shoot-out to determine the winner.

Eleanor Chebet (Blazers), Lynn Tamnai (Strathmore) and Alice Owiti (Lakers) scored to lead Kenya to victory in the third/fourth place playoffs played at Theodosia Okoh Stadium in Accra, Ghana.

However, it was youthful goalkeeper Adhiambo who carried Kenya on her back by saving two penalties from the South African country.

The Lakers Hockey Club goalkeeper has been in fine form for Tausi since their opening match against Zambia and Namibia.

Despite arriving late at the tournament after travelling hiccups, the East Africans put on a show that surprised many.

Commonly referred to as Tausi, Kenya began the tournament on a low in their Group B(Kenya, Ghana, Zambia and Namibia) matches after dishing out a 3-0 walkover against Ghana after arriving late last week on Tuesday.

Tausi would however bounce back to winning ways after thrashing Zambia 3-0 with Aurelia Opondo, Flavian Mutiva and Grave Bwire all on target.

Kenya proceeded to book their place in the semifinals with a hard fought 2-1(Aurelia Opondo and Naomi Kemunto) win over Namibia in a must-win group match.

In the semifinals, Kenya despite putting in a fight lost 4-0 to defending champions South Africa and in the process dropped to third place playoffs.
