Former champions Strathmore University Gladiators clash with Western Jaguars in a Kenya Hockey Union men's Premier League match at City Park today.

The 2016 winners will be looking to turn the tables on Jaguars who beat them 2-0 in their first leg encounter away in Kakamega.

A victory is crucial for Gladiators who are currently third from bottom. A stay in the top tier is at stake for the students who have not been at their best and are only three points ahead of bottom side Parklands and one ahead of Nairobi Sikh Union.

Gladiators who fizzled out after winning their last trophy must overcome Jaguars to chalk their fourth win of the season and also increase their chances of playing top-flight hockey next season.

Strathmore have suffered nine defeats, the highest of any team so far. Jaguars, on the other hand, will be looking to win their third straight match against the students and enhance their hopes of a top four finish.

They are currently sixth on the log with 17 points, two less than United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) who they tackle tomorrow in their second-weekend tie.

Tomorrow, struggling 2012 champions Nairobi Sikh Union take on Sailors in their 15th league encounter. Sikh Union will be out to win their second tie this season having squandered a 3-1 lead to settle for a 3-3 draw with Kenya Police in a midweek encounter on Wednesday evening.

Holders and current league leaders Butali Warriors, Wazalendo, Greensharks and Police who are second, third and fourth will not be in action this weekend. In the women’s Premier League title chase, debutants Lakers will be hoping to bounce back from last month’s disappointing city tour that saw them lose to USIU-A Spartans and Sliders by a 2-1 margin.

Lakers take on Amira Sailors and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) today and tomorrow respectively.

Lakers will be out to snatch maximum points from Amira after sharing spoils as well as complete a double against JKUAT who they beat 2-0 in Kisumu.

Champions Telkom will return to action this weekend against Kenyatta University (KU) Titans.

A win for the ten-time Africa winners will see them take a three-point lead ahead of second-placed Spartans. Telkom and Spartans are tied on 26 points but the 21-time league winners have a superior goal difference.

In the men’s Super League, Kenya College of Accountancy University (KCAU) will step up their return to the top tier campaign with two ties against Coastal outfits Mvita XI and Mombasa Sports Club (MSC). Mvita and MSC will also play Nakuru Hockey Club while KU Vultures will entertain Impala.
