Nairobi Simba reaped maximum points from their Western Kenya tour after winning all their matches.
After beating Western Jaguars 4-1 at Kakamega on Saturday, Nairobi Simba proceeded to Kisumu where they edged compatriots Kisumu Simba 5-4.
Nairobi Simba now share the top position with Kenya Hockey Union Premier League leaders on 18 points. However, Kenya Police have a superior goal difference.
Kisumu Simba, who are third in standings, started blazingly, as they went on the rampage in search of points to take them to the top of the league.
Within four minutes, Kisumu Simba had already taken the lead after prolific striker Zack Aura converted a penalty stroke after he was fouled by Simba’s Wilson Otieno.
However, the Nairobi-based side equalised through George Mutira who tapped the ball past Kisumu keeper Arif Shah.
The goal set the pace for the rest of the match with both teams intensifying their attacks from time to time.
Nairobi’s Shah wasted a great chance to give his team the lead after shooting wide with only the keeper to beat.
However, the visitors took the lead after Haggai Pepela slotted in a powerful shot after a short corner in the 13th minute.
The lead, however, lasted only two minutes as Kisumu hit back through Bramwel Lijoodi who fired home after being set up by captain Dennis Owoka.
Nairobi reclaimed the lead through Saidi Okwemba who side-tracked Brian Otieno’s shot for a 3-1 lead.
By half time Brian Otieno and Bramwel Lijoodi’s goals had given the home team a 4-3 lead.
Just two minutes into resumption, Nairobi Simba had levelled things with Davies Wanagwe setting up Shah for a 4-4 tie, before Firoz Bashir made it 5-4 a minute later in favour of the Nairobi side.
In another National Men’s League match played at the City Park Stadium, Parklands Sports Club thrashed struggling Thika Rovers 8-4.
Multimedia University beat Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology 2-1 as Kimathi University from Nyeri also got three points after beating Nairobi Gymkhana 2-0.
In the Women’s Premier League matches, Vikings defeated Multimedia 3-1, while leaders, Telkom Orange extended their winning ways by beating a hapless Blue.
