Forget it! Timo Werner's agent sends message to Man United and Chelsea over Liverpool transfer

Timo Werner's representatives are said to have told Manchester United and Chelsea to forget about a move for the player - because he has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool.

The 24-year-old has had a sensational campaign for RB Leipzig, scoring 25 goals in the Bundesliga and a further four in the Champions League.

Liverpool are the team who have been most strongly linked with his signature, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp known to be a big fan of the player.

But as Mirror Sport revealed last week, the two clubs are yet to find an agreement over a transfer fee, with Liverpool said to be unwilling to pay anything less than Werner's £50m release clause.

However, according to the Transfer Window Podcast Werner has his heart set on a switch to Anfield, and has already agreed a five year contract worth £140,000-a-week with the Merseyside giants.

It remains to be seen whether a fee can be agreed, with Liverpool only able to activate the release clause in the next 11 days before it expires.

United and Chelsea, therefore, are thought to have admitted defeat in the race for Werner, having accepted he is desperate to play under Klopp for the Premier League champions elect.

They may turn their attentions towards fellow Bundesliga high-flyer Jadon Sancho, although given the current precarious financial situation as a result of the coronavirus pandemic it is unlikely they will be able to afford Dortmund's £100m asking price.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the club to sell the on-loan trio of Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo in order to free up transfer funds, while Blues boss Frank Lampard will also likely look to offload some of the deadwood in his squad.
