Campaign to find child wearing Lionel Messi shirt made out of plastic bag

GOSSIP & RUMOURS By Mirror | January 20th 2016

Football speaks the universal language, and for one little boy, the message is one of hope.

This picture of a young supporter of Lionel Messi has gone viral, and those sharing it are hoping something great might come of the viral hit.

It shows a youngster, as is seen worldwide, with the Argentinian blue and white striped "Messi 10" shirt.

But instead of being an actual fabric football shirt, it's a common-or-garden blue and white striped plastic grocery bag which he's fashioned into a vest.

Shared online by Twitter account Fanatik, they wrote: "Tremendous image. A child in Iraq manages to play in his idol's T-shirt. The Beautiful Game."

Although the hope is inspirational, the sadness of a little boy who doesn't have a real shirt for his hero has kickstarted the campaign to get him a real one - or even to meet his hero.

Widely regarded as the greatest player in history, the unassuming Argentina forward has become a Barcelona legend winning a succession of La Liga and Champions League titles while breaking new goal scoring records practically every season.

He's been named FIFA Ballon D'Or winner five times since 2009.

Another Twitter account messi10stats posted to its 700,000 followers: "We got DM from Leo's team. They want to know who this kid is so that Leo can arrange something for him. RT and spread."

It remains to be seen if Messi's team re interested - they have not commented - but the love of the player from a little boy who dreams of wearing that number 10 has touched people across the globe.
