Ladies and gentlemen, the exciting Standard County Golf Classic series is back.

The 2022 edition of the circuit, whose theme ‘On the Green Course, for the Green Cause’, seeks to promote sustainable action against climate change and it’s much bigger and better.

The opening leg of the series will tee off tomorrow at par 73 Nakuru Golf Club.

The over 100 players in contention have been warned to be wary of the tedious par 3 hole 4.

However, they should expect a scenic view of the city, at par 5 hole 18.

“The third hole (216 yards) has a water bunker on the right. Contestants should aim left of the green if they want to overcome the barrier,” club captain Luther Kamau told Standard Sports.

“The last hole has a great view of Nakuru town. They will be able to see the lake and the colourful Flamingos dancing in it.”

According to the captain, the players to watch out for include handicap 22 hard-hitter Gurtej Sahota, who is expected to be a sensation in the junior category.

Club chairman Stephen Kihumba (handicap 14) and handicap 19 Esther Karuga are some of the competitors who are expected to give the field a run for their money in the senior category.

“Visiting players should expect hot weather since it has not rained for a while in Nakuru. The fairways are dry, but the greens are well watered and in good conditions,” said Kamau.

Kamau added that several trees will be planted during the tournament as part of the club’s sustainable action against climate change.

“The competition will help the club earn revenue from visiting guests and players from Nyahururu, Njoro, Naivasha and Kericho. Standard Group PLC will also benefit through marketing of their products and brand visibility,” he said.

Some of the partners on board to support the series include Mediheal Group of Hospitals, who are platinum and healthcare partners, Panafrican Equipment Group/FMD East Africa and Space & Style Ltd.

“Mediheal will conduct a free medical clinic at the club during the event,” Gokul Kumar, VP International Business Development at Mediheal, said.
