Big field for Limuru's inaugural tourney

A huge field of over 220 golfers, will be battling it out for the top honours as the par 72, Limuru Golf & Country Club, plays host to the maiden Vice Chairman (Dr Caroline Wangari Ngugi) Golf day tomorrow.

The lush green course, which tilts 6872 yards, will see hackers and single handicappers battle it out for the great prizes up for grabs courtesy of the clubs' Vice Chairman Dr Wangari Ngugi.

The inaugural event is presented by; The Standard Group Plc, Kenya Orient, Ketepa, Kengen, Serena Hotels, Astrol Mint, MarvelGal, The Carnivore and friends of the Vice-Chairman among others.

"It’s my way of giving back to my home club which I hold so dear. Long after I have relinquished the vice chairmanship, I would love to see it develop into a big club event in future,” added Wangari

Apart from resident golfers, players from other clubs within Nairobi and beyond have been drawn up for the event which tees off as early as 6:30 in a continuous draw, in the event which will be played under the Stableford format of playoff your full handicap.

Away in Thika, Thika Greens Golf Resort will host the third edition of the Embu/Kirinyaga golf day that will include golfers from other clubs. The event is presented by Two Rivers Motors and Areli Motors for the first time.

“Through this events, we seek to tap into the new golf talents which abound within our midst, by encouraging young and upcoming golfers to take up the game of golf,” said Martin Nyaga, skipper and patron of Embu County Golfers.

Golfers from Embu region have adopted Kiambu Golf Club and Thika Greens Golf Resort as their clubs, where they will be playing every last Friday of the month to help them bond.

As they await the completion of the first private 18 hole Embu Golf Club and Resor course, which is currently 60% complete that is being developed by Isaiah Kagoche. Meanwhile, talks with the County Government are at an advanced stage for the development of a public golf course and club at Njukiri Forest.
