Kakamega Homeboyz hopes to finish among six top teams in FKF Premier League

Kakamega Homeboyz hopes to be among the top six finishers in the FKF Premier League this season.

Although it will not be a walk in the park, Head Coach Nicholas Muyoti said there is nothing that will stop them from finishing in a respectable position if their current form is anything to go by.

"We are here to give a good account of ourselves in the chase for top honours. We are trying our level best in the league not to drop any more points this time around," Muyoti told Standard Sports after they thrashed Kariobangi Sharks 4-1 in a FKF Premier League match at ASK Nakuru Showground on Saturday.

As he was plotting to bag more points, Kariobangi Sharks head coach William Muluya admitted having lost to a better side.

"We tried our best but it was not our day to win this match (against Homeboyz) and the side won, "Muluya told Standard Sports.

In their victory, Shami Kibwana scored a hattrick with Brian Shikanda netting the other in the 4-1 victory as the consolation goal for Kariobangi Sharks came through Peter Licasa.

The win propelled Kakamega Homeboyz to the fifth position with 43 points from 27 matches behind leaders Tusker 55 points from 27 matches, KCB 54points /27matches, AFC Leopards 44 points/26matches and Kariobangi Sharks 44 points/28matches.

In their next match, Kakamega Homeboyz face defending champions Gor Mahia at Thika Municipal Stadium on Wednesday (August 4, 2021).

"We are determined to collect maximum points against the defending champions Gor Mahia in the epic match. We are not relenting in our quest to be among the six finishers in the league," he explained.

Asked the formula he'll use to go past Kogalo Boys who also received a rude shock last week when Ulinzi Stars defeated them by a solitary goal at the same venue and have vowed not to drop any more points against the Kakamega side.

Last week, Gor Mahia Stand-In coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo lamented on the factors that had seen them drop valuable points in their previous seven matches where they drew four and lost three and thereby losing a total of 17 points.

Omollo vowed not to drop any more points despite the exodus of top players who have moved out of the club in pursuit of greener pastures with the latest being the departure of midfielder kingpin Kenneth Muguna to Azam United of Tanzania.

"Dropping any more points will be a thing of the past since I'm out to use the few remaining experienced players at the club to ensure we stop the losing streak," said former international Omollo who also played for Kogalo Boys.

 

"The good thing about us is that all players understand and are aware of our predicament and therefore will not let us down as many teams would like us to fall because of these shortcomings,' he added.

And as Muyoti is plotting against Gor Mahia, it'll not be a walk in the park for him against the defending champions who had earlier indicated of their plight to win the 91st Mashemeji Derby, which was boycotted by the two clubs yesterday owing to Sh 3million owed to the two clubs by Football Kenya Federation.

"If we win the derby(Mashemeji), then it will not be easy for any team to beat us after that," Omollo had said after their loss to Ulinzi Stars.

So, the match between the two teams(Homeboyz/Gor Mahia) will be an epic and explosive one as no team will be ready to stop their winning streak while the other will be out to keep their winning formula.
