Fortune Sacco on Wednesday reclaimed their second spot in the National Super League (NSL) after seeing off Mombasa Elite 2-0 in the mid-week match played at Kianyaga Stadium.

Jacob Kareno's brace in the second half was enough to hand the hosts three important points as the race for FKF Premier League promotion contuse to intensify.

The win moved Fortune Sacco second on 57 points, one more then Muhoroni Youth who lost 1-0 to SS Assad at Shamu Grounds.

Runaway leaders APS Bomet extended the point tally at the top to 63 after seeing off Naivas FC at the Bomet Stadium courtesy of Lawrence Kibet's goal from the spot.

Top two teams at the end of the season will be promoted to the top tier league automatically by virtue of finishing second and first as the third placed team will be forced to face Wazito in the relegation-promotion playoffs match.

In Mombasa, Coastal Heroes maintained their hopes of avoiding relegation when they edged Mara Sugar FC 2-1 at Serani Sports in Mombasa.

Mara Sugar led 1-0 at the break through Victor Nguma's strike, but the home team turned the tables in the second half through goals from Marcus Jairo and Ali Halafu.

Heroes remain in 17th place in the standings with 31 points from 30 games and face Kisumu All Stars next Monday in Kisumu.

Murang'a Seal squeezed through a narrow 3-2 win over Mwatate United to move to sixth as Shabana edged out Vihiga United by a solitary goal to remain fifth with 50 points.

Dandora Love and Zoo FC, who announced their withdrawal from the league last weekend, did not show up for their respective matches.
