Robert Matano has threatened to ditch 2021-2022 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Tusker.

Speaking after guiding the Brewers to their 13th Premier League title on Sunday, the veteran tactician said some individuals in the team are disrespecting him and he does not like that after giving everything to the club.

On Sunday, Tusker saw off Posta Rangers 2-0 as they retained their league title, pipping Kakamega Homeboyz on goal-difference with both teams tied at 63 points.

Matano cited sabotage from unnamed official as the reason behind his shocking decision to leave the club despite leading them to a back to back championship titles.

“There is somebody who doesn’t need me in this team and I am not happy with that. But again, I am happy because I have proved him wrong.”

“I am an experienced coach who knows what he is doing. I don’t depend on luck. There are people who do not trust me in the team. We had times when the team was down but those are dynamics in football. I said the league is a marathon and that we will win, which we did,” said Matano.

“Respect is important. During low times and winning days, we must respect one another. On the positive note, I am happy with my achievements being the most successful local coach.”

Matano, the most successful local coach has won three league titles with Tusker (2012,2021 and 2022). He also won the title with Sofapaka in 2009 and as well as inspired AFC Leopards and Nairobi City Stars to clinch the Shield Cup in 2005 and 2017 respectively.
