Nairobi City Stars on Saturday bounced back to winning ways after defeating visiting Bandari 2-1 in an early kick off Football Kenya Federation Premier League match played at Ruaraka Grounds.

City Stars had lost 1-0 to the same opponents two weeks ago before the local league took a 14-day break.

Timothy Ouma and Ezekiel Odera scored in the first half to hand the hosts a comfortable 2-0 lead at the breather before Umaru Kasumba pulled one back for Bandari who lost their fifth match of the season.

The win saw City Stars temporarily leapfrog Tusker into second spot in the standings with 41 points, the same as the brewers but with an inferior goal difference.

The win also revived their chances of laying hands on the title after recently struggling with consistency.

Consequently, Simba wa Nairobi moved to eight points within the reach of league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz pending the outcome of their duel against Ulinzi Stars.

In the match, it took City Stars 15 minutes to sprung into life when Ouma struck a beauty of a free kick just outside the box to beat Michael Wanyika in goal, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, the experienced striker Odera tap in home the second goal after Davies Agesa had picked him to double the scores.

Bandari halved the deficit in the 78th minute through Umaru Kasumba who send Jacob Osano the wrong way in the spot after he was brought down in the area by Abdallah Salim.

City Stars held on the slim advantage up to the final whistle to take home all the three points.

Bandari remained sixth with 37 points after the defeat.
