Mathare United ended their 12 match winless streak in the FKF Premier League after defeating newbies FC Talanta 2-0 in a match played at Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday.

The change of guard at Mathare has brought new hope as new coach John Kamau announced his arrival at the Slum Boys who registered their first win since October last year.

Kamau was previously Wazito assistant coach but was sent packing by the moneybags earlier last month together with his boss Francis Kimanzi.

Danson Kago and Daniel Otieno scored in the opening first 15 minutes to hand Mathare a rare victory and new hope as they continue to push to survive relegation.

Mathare had a dream start to the match, scoring in the third minute to take an early lead courtesy of Kago.

Kamau’s boys doubled their advantage from the spot at the quarter hour mark after Shela Mandela was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box prompting the referee to point to the spot.

Otieno stepped up to take the resultant penalty and made no mistake as he sent the ball into the net to make it 2-0. Victory leaves the Slum Boys still second last with 10 points.

The defeat leaves Talanta still eighth on the log with 24 points.
