Clubs, Associations directed to comply with Sports Act 2013

The Government has directed football clubs and associations to be fully compliant with the Sports Act 2013 in order to be allowed to run the game smoothly in the country.

The state made this announcement on Monday through the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Caretaker Committee.

"The committee calls upon all clubs and associations to ensure that they are fully compliant with the requirements of the Sports Act. This will help them to run football activities at the grassroots without a hitch," said Anthony Luyundi, Vice Chairman, Competitions and League Committee.

Luyundi instructed the clubs to only deal with the branches and associations that are fully compliant with the Sport Act.

"Where in doubt, kindly verify information with the Sports Registrar," he said.

Luyundi who also doubles as the Committee Head of Finance reiterated that all County Associations, Branches and any other organization running football affairs in the country should know they are subordinate to the FKF Caretaker Committee.

He explained the committee will soon embark on grass root tours across the country to engage clubs and stakeholders on matters involving the game.

"This is in abid to streamline the sport at the grassroots level," he said.

He said the committee is available to clarify any pertinent issues concerning the directives that have been issued by the State.

Meanwhile, the committee has stated that clubs in the Kenyan Premier League will each get a Sh300,000 grant to help them with logistics in the league.

"As you are aware, the various football leagues resumed across the country from the beginning of this month. The committee in conjunction with the various clubs has continued to run the fixtures smoothly and we thank all stakeholders for their continued cooperation," Luyundi said.

National Super League clubs will each get Sh250,000. Clubs in the Women Premier League, due to kick off on December 18 will each get Sh300,000.

"Women clubs in the Division One will each get Sh250,000," Luyundi said.

Neddy Atieno, Women League and Sub Committee Chairperson said kicking the women's Premier League in December will give Kenya ample time to reflect and prepare well for the packed 2022 where the country is aiming to defend the East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) title at the same time qualifies for the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON).
