Bandari FC appoints former basketballer Sammy Wajohi as CEO cum Secretary

Edward Oduor, the long-serving Chief Executive Officer at Bandari Football Club has been relieved of his duties effective immediately.

In the changes announced by the Kenya Ports Authority who are the sponsors of the club, Oduor who also doubled up as the Club's Secretary has been replaced by the former Coast Basketball Association Chairman Sammy Wajohi.

In the changes made by the authority's Acting Managing Director John Mwangemi, Kenya Communications Sports Organization(KECOSO) management committee has also been abolished.

"I also direct the General Manager Finance to lock the budget allocated to the Kecoso management committee's operations," said the MD.

The Bandari FC's changes come a week after the club unveiled its new squad for the 2021/22 season where Oduor played a big role in flashing Sh 1.5 million on the recruitment of the new players.

Oduor who is a Superintendent at the authority's Conventional Cargo Operations department has been one of the long serving officials at the club where he rose from the Team Manager to the CEO position.

Wanjohi who previously served as the head coach of KPA's men basketball team is an administrator within the parastatal in the Administration Department and has been in sports since early 1990s and his experience in sports administration is expected to play a big role in the team.

Wanjohi who is also the club's secretary will serve alongside Engineer Abdullahi Samatar who is the club's Chairman and Bernard Osero as Vice Chairman. Stephen Yebei and Onesmus Ngumbao are the assistant secretary and treasurer respectively. Former Harambee Stars tactician Twahir Muhiddin has been retained as the Technical Director.

Former Kenya Ferry Services Managing Director Musa Hassan, Milkah Getumo, Nazir Mohammed, Janet Mwendwa and former FKF Deputy Secretary Herbert Mwachiro will serve as members.

The MD said each committee member is expected to act for the sole benefit and interest of the authority.

In other changes, the MD named Robert Warui and Bether Akuno as the Chairman and Secretary respectively at the Mbaraki Sports Club while Enock Mwakwida is the Chairman of the Makande Gymnasium and Welfare Club.

Meanwhile, Bandari head coach Andre Mbungo has promised to deliver the Premier League title. "We have the men to deliver the league trophy. Our sponsors have invested in quality players. We have signed experienced players who have strengthened the team in all departments," said the coach.

New players at the Mombasa based team are Rogers Aloro from league champions Tusker, Whyvonne Isuza from Wazito, goalkeeper Joseph Okoth from KCB and 18-year old Boniface Mwangemi who has joined the squad from Kariobangi Sharks.

Mbungo said he will work on rectifying all the mistakes they did last season to ensure his charges are in best form.
