Vaz Pinto named FKF Premier League Coach of the Month

Gor Mahia head coach Carlos Vaz Pinto has been named the May Football Kenya Federation Premier League coach of the month.

Vaz Pinto guided the defending champions to a one hundred percent record in the month, winning all their four matches played in May.

The defending champions began the month with a hard fought 1-0 win over league returnees Nairobi City Stars at the Utalii grounds before humbling Sofapaka 2-1 at their own backyard.

The record Kenyan champions followed the ‘Batoto ba Mungu’ victory with a narrow 1-0 win over Vihiga United in their third match of the month played at the Mumias Sports Complex before replicating the similar score line in the last encounter against Wazito at Utalii Grounds.

Pinto beat KCB tactician Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno to the award with AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems closing the top three bracket.

Zico who was decorated as the December coach of the month led KCB to collect seven points out of a possible twelve same as Aussems but with the bankers having a better goal returns.

The Portuguese becomes the fifth coach to be feted this season after Zico, Francis Kimanzi, Andre Casa Mbungo and Stanley Okumbi who were awarded in December, January, February and March respectively.

Pinto walks home with a customized trophy and Sh50000 cash prize courtesy of the league sponsor.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia will be seeking to return to winning ways when they host Bandari at Utalii Grounds on Wednesday.

Gor lost 2-1 to relegation threatened Western Stima over last weekend on Saturday.

The result blew away Gor hopes of representing Kenya at the Caf Champions League next season after having participated in the continental event for the last four years.

FKF earlier on communicated that the team on top of the league by June 30 will earn the ticket to Caf Champions League.

Currently fourth in the FKF-PL standings with 38 points, K'Ogalo will be eyeing to catch up with leaders Tusker who are six points ahead as they seek to defend their title.
