Boost for Kisumu sports tourism as Ghanaian golfers set to grace Nyanza tourney

A team of golfers from Ghana on Friday jetted in Kisumu County for a golf tournament as sports tourism gains traction in Kisumu.
The DOKNAM-KIM golfers’ team from Ghana arrived for a series of tournaments in Kisumu, Nairobi and Mombasa.
They will be playing in honour of one of their colleagues, the late Paul Ondiwa from Asembo who, until his death was the ICT Director at Ecobank in Ghana.
The High Commissioner of Kenya to Ghana Eliphas Barine expressed that having won the title of Africa’s Best Golf Destination in 2020 at the World Golf Award, there has been an increased demand for golf tourism in Kenya.
Kenya has cemented her position as a top golfing destination in Africa, boasting over 40 world-class courses and a growing local and international fan base.

Kisumu County Director of Sports Ms Valerie Kizito said sports tourism was one of the fastest-growing sectors in tourism in the county.
“More and more tourists are interested in sports activities during their trips. Kisumu is a world-renowned golfing destination and we are reaping the benefits of the surging demand for golf tourism,” expressed Ms Kizito.
Kisumu’s Nyanza Golf club has played host to national golf tournaments the most recent one being the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga memorial golf tournament.
“We look forward to exploring Kisumu while on our mission here. Indeed we look forward to exploring Kenya’s golf courses too” said Mr Don Obilor who is one of the golfers and the CEO of Adams 360 brand communications agency in Ghana.
