Kisumu Hot Stars (Chemelil Sugar) are confident of collecting maximum points when they face Gusii FC (Sony Sugar) at Gusii Stadium in Kisii on Sunday as the National Super League (NSL) matches enters round seven.

The former Division One sides were set to play on Monday but their match was carried forward to tomorrow (Sunday) with Hot Stars captain Reagan Ojwang remaining positive ahead of the match.

Speaking during an interview with the Standard Sports, Ojwang, who resumed training with the team after a month out with an ankle injury said they are upbeat of winning the match in Gusii.

Ojwang said they learned from their mistake during their last match against rivals Kisumu All-Stars and are looking forward to playing more aggressively against Gusii.

“We lost at home against All-Stars despite having many clear chances of scoring. We were wasteful but against Gusii we are going to be clinical in goal.”

“For the past three matches, we have been starting the match slowly and allowing our opponents to come at us but that is due to change after working the problem out in training. The team is hungry and raring to go and we expect nothing but three points in Kisii,” said Ojwang.

Kisumu Hot Stars are currently 14 in the NSL standings after collecting seven points from their six matches played, two points behind Gusii FC who are sixth with nine points.

Both Hot Stars and Gusii, who played in the Division One League last season, were handed a slot to the NSL after the disbandment Chemelil Sugar and Sony Sugar due to massive financial constraints.

Elsewhere, former KPL side Kisumu All-Stars will be seeking to make it two wins in a row when they welcome newbies Soy United at Moi Stadium.

All-Stars, fresh from their 1-0 win over Kisumu Hot Stars will be aiming to maintain their pressure on log leaders Talanta, Coast Stima and Fortune Sacco by winning their fourth match of the campaign.

The lakeside outfit commonly referred to as ‘Otenga’ is currently fourth in the standings with 12 points, a point behind joint leaders Talanta, Stima and Fortune Sacco.

In Nairobi, the battle for top spot will continue as FC Talanta is set out to face Kibera Black Stars on Monday at the Ligi Ndogo grounds while Coast Stima will battle it out with APS Bomet at the Bomet Stadium.

Other matches will see Kenya Police face Fortune Sacco, Vihiga Bullets entertain Shabana and Migori Youth host Mt. Kenya United in Migori.
