Nairobi City Stars moved to third in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League standings after edging out Bandari 2-0 on Friday in a match played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi.

Former Sofapaka's Anthony Kimani gave City Stars the lead in the 59th minute before Bandari's captain Bernard Odhiambo’s own goal sealed the hosts second win of the season.

The win saw City Stars move three places up from seventh place to third in the premier league standings with six points but with a game more than the rest of the teams who are scheduled to play today (Saturday).

City Stars coach Sanjin Alagic said he was happy with the win against a tough Bandari side.

The Bosnian tactician further called for consistency saying building a winning formula and rhythm will help them maintain their good start to the league.

“It was a tough game against an experienced Bandari side but am happy with how the boys played today. The win was important for us especially after our lose to KCB last weekend.

“We now need to build on the win and make it consistent so that we remain alive in the title race,” he said.

In their opening match of the season, City Stars beat Nzoia Sugar 2-0 at Narok Stadium before losing by a solitary goal to KCB last weekend.

City Stars earned promotion to the top tier as they were leading the National Super League after the 2019-20 season was ended owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

Today, reigning champions Gor Mahia begin their title defense against Ulinzi Stars at Nyayo stadium as Western Stima search for a first win of the season continues at Moi Stadium.

Other matches will see Kariobangi Sharks play Bidco United at Utalii Grounds as AFC Leopards welcome Sofapaka at Kasarani.
