Harambee Starlets forward Mwanahalima Adam is determined to make her mark at Israeli club Maccabi Holon where she has been offered a six-month renewable contract.

The Thika Queens player left for Israel via Addis Ababa on Wednesday evening and is required to undergo a mandatory 14-day isolation period once she arrives at her new club.

Mwanahalima’s move to Israel is a relief for the diminutive forward after her move to Swedish club IF Djugarden earlier this year failed to materialise due to a visa hitch.

"I thank my club chair for allowing me to join this Israeli club. I did not lose hope even after my earlier move to Sweden failed to go through. I knew that my patience would pay off and I am happy that I have now received a chance to join a foreign team,’’ Mwanahalima told KTN News.

Mwanahalima, who has been a mainstay in the national women’s football team since completing her secondary school education, expressed optimism that her performance will earn her a better deal with the Israeli side.

"I trust myself a lot and I believe they will want to make my deal permanent after my first match. I have put in a lot of effort during the period that was disrupted by the pandemic and I believe I am talented enough to make a good impression in Israel,’’ Mwanahalima said.

"It is an opportunity I could not let pass since the club had shown strong interest in my services after they were impressed with my videos. Now they intend to assess me at a closer look then after that I hope we can have an agreement for a long term deal,’’ she added.

"I won’t let down Kenyan fans who follow my progress. My aim is to improve on my game so that more opportunities come up. I will be working out on my own during that quarantine period before I can join the team in training.’’

Founded in 1999, Mwanahalima's new club Maccabi Holon has won the Israeli top tier league six times with their latest league triumph coming in the 2008-09 season.

The club, which hosts its matches at the 3,000-seater Holon Municipal Stadium, has also emerged victorious in the Israeli Cup on nine occasions.

Mwanahalima was among the best players for Kenya at the 2019 Cecafa Women’s Championship and is the latest Harambee Starlets player to move overseas, following in the footsteps of goalkeeper Annedy Kundu and defender Ruth Ingotsi who moved to Cyprus club Lakatamia FC in January.

Midfielder Corazon Aquino also sought greener pastures by moving to Portuguese side Atletico Ouriense while striker Cynthia Shilwatso was snapped up by EDF Logrono of Spain.
