Liverpool have been tipped to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland by RB Salzburg's sporting director.

The 20-year-old scoring sensation sealed a move to Borussia Dortmund last January after exploding onto the scene in Austria.

Since arriving in Germany, Haaland has scored 24 goals in 27 appearances.

The Norwegian was linked with a move to United and a reunion with former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. United, however, failed to agree on personal terms and Haaland joined Dortmund.

United still remain linked with the striker but it seems now his most likely destination, should he leave Dortmund, is their rivals Liverpool.

That's according to RB Salzburg's sporting director Cristoph Freund.

Freund was replying to former Germany star Lothar Matthaus who name-dropped Liverpool when discussing Haaland's future. "He will land there," he replied.

He added to Sky90: "He can play for any club in the world. With his mentality, his will and self-confidence, he will be able to make a mark on European football in the next ten years."

Haaland had scored an astonishing 28 goals in 22 games in the season he left RB Salzburg - and Freund has opened up on his mid-term exit.

"Erling really bit us," he said. "The talks with Dortmund were short. They told they had come to an agreement. we didn’t have that much influence on it, but it worked out correctly.

"Many clubs were interested and go it in touch. In the end, it was a decision made by the player."
