Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure after Arsenal inflicted Manchester United's third home defeat of the season in his 100th game in charge on Sunday.

Speculation that Solskjaer could be replaced has begun to resurface, with Roy Keane pointing out over the weekend that his former team-mate's players could cost him his job.

But the United manager actually has a better record than legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson from his first century of games in the Old Trafford hotseat.

Following Sunday's 1-0 loss, Solskjaer has presided over 55 wins, 21 draws and 24 defeats from his opening 100 games - placing him third in the all-time list of United managers.

Ferguson had only managed 48 wins, 31 draws and 21 defeats by the time he brought up his ton.

Of course, the Scot went on to become living proof of the wisdom of keeping faith with a manager despite early setbacks.

Ferguson took charge in 1986, and was in danger of being sacked until he secured his first trophy as United boss after his side won the 1990 FA Cup final.

The rest, of course, is history, as he went on to lead the Red Devils to an astonishing trophy haul during his 27 years in charge, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League triumphs.

Solskjaer is out to prove he has learned from his former mentor as he bids to lead United back to the big time, with the club having failed to win the title since Ferguson retired in 2012.

And while his side are floundering in 15th place in the Premier League, the Norwegian has led them to impressive Champions League wins over Paris-Saint Germain and RB Leipzig.

Solskjaer's 55% win rate from his century of games is still way behind that of Jose Mourinho, who won 62, drew 23 and lost 15 of his first 100 matches in charge.

Mourinho led United to a Europa League and EFL Cup double in his first season after taking the helm in 2016, but was sacked in 2018 and replaced by Solskjaer.

The United manager with the best record from his first 100 games is Ernest Mangnall, who oversaw 64 victories, along with 23 draws and 13 defeats.

Mangnall was United boss from 1903 to 1912, and led the Red Devils to their first two First Division titles, one FA Cup and two Charity Shield wins.

He took charge of Manchester City in 1912 and is the only man to have managed both clubs.

After Mangnall, Mourinho and Solskjaer, Sir Matt Busby has the next best record from his first 100 games, with 52 wins, 27 draws and 21 defeats.

Louis van Gaal is fifth, also with 52 wins, plus 25 draws and 23 losses.

Then comes Ron Atkinson (W 51, D 28, L 21), before Ferguson in seventh place.
