Harry Maguire will remain as Manchester United's captain following his arrest in Greece, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

Maguire was handed a suspended prison sentence following an altercation on the island of Mykonos last month.

He maintains his innocence and is appealing after being found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery. There will be a full retrial at a later date

Maguire was dropped for England's matches against Iceland and Denmark, but Solskjaer has confirmed he will remain as Red Devils skipper.

Speaking to MUTV, he said: "Of course Harry had a difficult summer.

"He didn't have a long break. His break was different to others as we gave him a few more days and, after, he's come back and looked fine.

"He's handled it really well and, of course, I'll be here to support him. He is going to be our captain. We'll just leave Harry and his people and the process to run.

"For me, he is a top, an absolute top, human being and has always been a positive guy with the right values. So I really hope we can see Harry performing at his best."

Maguire was an ever-present in the Premier League for United last term, as well as featuring 17 times in other competitions over the course of the season.

The Red Devils are not in action on the opening weekend due to their run in the Europa League, and kick-off their campaign at home to Crystal Palace next Saturday.
