Gabriel Magalhaes' agent has revealed that his client has chosen Arsenal as his next club due to the efforts of their manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu Gaspar.

The 22-year-old centre-back flew to London on Monday to complete his £27m move to the Gunners from Lille, and is set to become Arsenal's second new Brazilian signing of the summer after Willian joined on a free.

He had offers from other sides, however, with Serie A side Napoli believed to have matched Arsenal's bid.

But it is clear he has his heart set on a move to north London, and appears to have been wooed by Arteta and Edu more than by the salary on offer.

Journalist Freddie Paxton posted on Twitter on Monday evening: "Guilherme Miranda (agent of Gabriel Magalhaes) tells me: 'Arsenal was nowhere near the best proposal [money wise]. Gabriel chose them over more lucrative offers because Edu convinced us of the project. It’s 100% because of Edu Gaspar and Arteta.'"

It has been reported that Gabriel has passed his medical, and an official announcement from Arsenal and Lille of the signing going through appears just a matter of time.

He will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine period, however, due to the government's coronavirus restrictions on travel from France, meaning he will miss the Community Shield clash against Liverpool later this month.

Elsewhere, Arsenal confirmed today the permanent signing of defenders Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari.

Soares joined on an initial six month loan from Southampton in January, and although he struggled with injury initially he went on to make five Premier League appearances, scoring on his debut in the 4-0 win against Norwich in June.

Mari, meanwhile, moved to north London from Brazilian side Flamengo in January on an initial loan with an option to make the deal permanent - something the Gunners have decided to take up.
