Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that Quique Setien has been relieved of his duties following their humiliating Champions League exit according to reports.

The Spaniard only took charge in January but watched on as Bayern Munich put eight past them on Friday night.

Setien also surrendered the La Liga title to Real Madrid and has had to deal with a host of off field issues.

Barcelona's recent decline has been covered up largely by the brilliance of Lionel Messi, but even the Argentine's frustrations have been played out in public.

Defeat to Bayern looked to be the final straw and Bartomeu has since come out and said "Quique Setien is out" reports Bleacher Report.

The postmortem began as soon as the final whistle went in Lisbon on Friday with Barcelona humbled once again in Europe.

"We have hit rock bottom," said long serving defender Gerard Pique.

"This is not the first, nor the second, nor the third time. We are not on the right path."

"Coaches and players follow one another, but it has been several years since we have been able to be competitive on a European level.

"We all have to think internally and decide what is best for the club, for Barca. Tonight was unacceptable for Barcelona.

"It's very hard to take but I hope it will be useful for something, for us to all think about it.

"The club needs changes. And I'm not talking at the level of the coach or the players, but structurally the club needs changes of all kinds.

"We must bring in new blood to change this dynamic, and if necessary, I would be the first to leave."

Barcelona have finished the season without a major trophy having also been dumped out in the last eight of the Copa del Rey.
