The sporting fraternity in the country is mourning former Agro-Chemicals, Western Stima and Kisumu All-Stars head coach Henry Omino.
The veteran tactician succumbed to thyroid cancer on March 20 at his rural home in Siaya county at the age of 71.
Speaking exclusively to Game Yetu his son Marvin Ochieng confirmed the sad news of his passing on.
“It is true. My father passed on yesterday night at home, he was set to travel to Nairobi the next day for treatment but unfortunately he couldn’t make it,” he said.
Omino was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2015 and has been on medication since then.
According to his family, his condition worsened in the last four days and he had already secured funds for his checkup in Nairobi that was set for Friday, March 20.
Owino started his professional coaching career with Agro Chemicals before joining Western Stima and later led the 2019-2020 debutants Kisumu All Stars.
FKF recognized his invaluable contribution to football in the country, while other Premier League clubs mourned him as a great competitor and a true sportsman. ‘
Zagallo’ as he was fondly known in the field has been survived by two wives and 10 children.
