For sports personalities, the former President Daniel Arap Moi will remain a cornerstone in their checkered history in search of glory.

As Moi is laid to rest today at his Kabarak home, all what's left of him, are fond memories of a man whose love for sports was unrivaled.

He loved football, swimming and motorsport. He also had a soft spot for athletics.

During his time, Moi would hardly miss a football match at either Kasarani Stadium, or Nyayo Stadium.

It did not matter whether it was an international match with Harambee Stars in action, or when Gor Mahia faced their sworn enemies AFC Leopards. He was there in person and on time.

Gor Mahia was to Moi what last borns are to their fathers. He always gave them an ear, especially when things went south for the K'Ogalo faithful.

It's no wonder Gor's self proclaimed number one fan, Jaro Soja, was at the Parliament Buildings on Monday to bid him farewell.
