Transfer update: Wanyama set to leave Tottenham today, destination revealed

Reports: Spurs receive offers from Fiorentina and Rennes ahead of deadline day

Reports have emerged that Victor Wanyama could leave Tottenham before today’s transfer deadline.

Spurs initially wanted around £17million for the Kenyan international in the summer window but struggled to find a buyer, according to  the Evening Standard.

They lowered their valuation to £9million at the start of this month but may have to consider dropping his price tag further to entice potential suitors to make a bid as his £62,000-a-week wages at Tottenham are also proving a stumbling block.

As they look to sell him before the transfer window shuts today, Bayer Leverkusen, Fiorentina, Rennes and Strasbourg have all expressed an interest in him according to reports from the Daily Mail.

French newspaper, L'Equipe, reports Rennes are weighing up a move for Wanyama after their efforts to sign first-choice target Steven Nzonzi from Roma look difficult to push through.

Roma midfielder Nzonzi is currently on loan with Galatasaray.

The report further adds that Fiorentina, who have also sent a proposal to Spurs, are interested in securing the services of the Kenyan international in the January transfer window.

Wanyama, who has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho since he was appointed manager in November, is into the final 18 months of his contract.

Spurs are now expected to soften their stance ahead of transfer window deadline in order to attract interest from a number of European clubs. .

The Harambee Stars skipper had previously been linked with a move to several European clubs, including West Ham, Celtic, Aston Villa, Norwich City and Galatasaray but has not yet decided to be transferred.

Since he joined Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2016, his career has been marred by bursts of nagging injuries, which have also kept the midfielder out of action in crucial parts of the season.

Wanyama, who joined Spurs in an £11million deal from Saints, has made 154 Premier League appearances to date, chipping in with 10 goals and three assists.
