NSL: Kibera Black Stars dim Nairobi City Stars’ unbeaten run

Kibera Black Stars ended leaders Nairobi City Star’s 17-match unbeaten run after edging them out 1-0 in a tight Betika Super League match at Camp Toyoyo, over the weekend.

Janyeez Otieno scored the only goal of the match to hand Elvis Ayany his second consecutive win of the campaign with the victory taking the slum boys out of the relegation zone. They are now 15th with 16 points.

Kibera head coach Ayany praised his charges for defying all odds to beat the league leaders, saying their victory over Talanta a week earlier helped improve the confidence of the team.

“Belief and resilience got us the win over City Stars. The boys executed everything we planned ahead of the match and I am glad we are now out of the relegation zone.”

“We started the season very poorly but we did not give up and I believe if we build on the two consecutive wins against Talanta and City Stars, we can get into the top 10.”

However, the loss left City Stars seven points clear at the top of the stable ahead of Bidco United, who leapfrogged Nairobi Stima into second position.

Bidco thrashed Fortune Sacco 3-0 to go second with 36 points as Stima dropped two places to fourth with 35 points after losing the ‘Stima Derby’ 3-0 at the hands of Coast Stima in Mombasa.

In Mumias, former KPL side Vihiga United ended their three-match losing streak after defeating Mount Kenya United 2-0 at Mumias Sports Complex.

In Awendo, 16-year-old striker Ben Stanley inspired Migori Youth to a 3-0 win over Vihiga Bullets to maintain their fifth place position.

“Stanley is a young striker willing to learn and I believe with hard work and patience, he will grow to be the next Enock Agwnda of the region. He has talent and an eye for goal and I believe he will help us get into the top four,” Migori coach Robert Ojienda said.

Modern Coast Rangers were the biggest winners of the weekend with a massive 5-0 win over bottom placed St Joseph Youth.
