Liverpool Vs Newcastle United preview and betting tip

FOOTBALL By Game Yetu | September 13th 2019

The Premier League gets back underway this weekend following the international break, and the first action of the weekend will come live from Anfield as Liverpool can stretch their lead at the top of the division to five points.

22Bet offers their preview and a special betting tip on the match ahead.

Liverpool vs Newcastle Preview

Jurgen Klopp couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season from his side. The reigning European champions have won all four of their Premier League fixtures so far this season, and the defensive issues that seemed to have been a problem in the early stages have been fixed.

Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to form last time out in the club’s 3-0 win over Burnley. The right-back played his part in the opener as his cross was bizarrely deflected into his own goal by Chris Wood. Sadio Mane grabbed the second before Roberto Firmino added the third.

However, Mane was less than pleased to have been replaced and was left fuming with Mohamed Salah’s inability to pass the ball to him moments before being substituted. Klopp branded this as a good thing after the game, as he stated that he enjoys the goalscoring competition between his talented trio.

The Reds will see the fixture against Newcastle as an opportunity to open up the first big gap of the season between themselves and Manchester City; with the Citizens not playing until Saturday evening against Norwich City. It doesn’t look like there should be any issues for the Reds at Anfield.

Newcastle meanwhile are yet to hit their groove under Steve Bruce. They enjoyed an excellent win against Tottenham Hotspur on their last away day, but a draw in the following game at St James’ Park ensured that momentum was quickly flawed.

The only goal in their win at Spurs was scored by record signing Joelinton, who gave Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez a tough afternoon. The Brazilian will be looking to do the same with Virgil van Dijk on Saturday, but whether he can do what he did to the Spurs defenders looks unlikely against the UEFA Defender and Player of the Year.

Bruce would at least be happy that his side wasn’t in the relegation places going into the first international break of the season, but they will need to start getting wins if the manager wants the pressure on his shoulders to ease. However, that looks unlikely to happen at Anfield.

Head to Head: Liverpool and Newcastle

Liverpool holds the clear advantage in the overall record between the sides having won on 85 occasions compared to Newcastle’s 50. There have also been 42 draws between the sides. However, the Toon haven’t won at Anfield since 1994 and have conceded at least twice on each of their last five visits.

Betting Tip

This could be an incredibly difficult afternoon for Bruce’s side, and they will likely line up defensively as they did against Tottenham. However, it’s unlikely that they will be able to hold off the threat posed by the Reds, and Liverpool will make easy work of their opponents.
