Why Wanyama will still be forced out of Tottenham even if Eriksen departs

Tottenham are eyeing up moves for three highly-rated European prospects as they aim to continue splashing the cash on revamping the team.

Real Madrid ’s Dani Ceballos, Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo and Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis are all of interest, but signing them may depend on their player Christian Eriksen leaving.

Spurs smashed their transfer record to sign £63m Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele this week and are keen to add a further player to the engine room.

Like Ndombele, all three of their potential targets are under 24 and fit with the high-tempo football manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to play.

Spurs held more talks with Betis over Lo Celso recently and are currently deciding whether to make an improved offer for the Argentina international, who is valued at €75m by his club.

But they are also interested in Spain Under-21 star Ceballos – who is keen to leave Real to get regular first-team football.

And rising Italy star Zaniolo has also emerged as an option as Roma could be tempted to include him in a swap deal for defender Toby Alderweireld, whose contract is running out.

But after splashing out close to £75m on both Ndombele and Leeds winger Jack Clarke, another big move rests on whether Spurs can shift Eriksen.

The Denmark star went public earlier this summer with his wish to leave and his representatives are currently gauging interest around Europe in their client.

Eriksen was hoping to join Real but there has been no bid from the Spanish giants and he is not currently high on their wish list.

Spurs value Eriksen at over £70m despite the 27-year-old having just one year left on his contract, and hope to reinvest that money in more signings.

But should a move not materialise, it is unlikely Tottenham would pursue another midfielder as they would still have Eriksen to rely on and would be short of cash.

Betis are currently holding out for at least £67m for Lo Celso, but Ceballos and Zaniolo are potentially cheaper options.

Ceballos could be available on loan or on a permanent transfer with a buy-back clause because he sees his long-term future at Madrid.

And Zaniolo could be available for little financial outlay if Spurs were to pay around £10m and send Alderweireld, who has a £25m release clause, to Roma.

Lo Celso and Ceballos are both understood to be keen to join Spurs, while Zaniolo is currently weighing up his options.
