David De Gea has been offered a huge £350k-a-week deal by Manchester United, which would make him the highest paid goalkeeper in the world.

Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has put the deal on the table despite De Gea making a number of high-profile errors last season.

United are desperate to keep the 28-year-old, who has been at Old Trafford since 2011 and firmly established himself as their number one goalkeeper.

De Gea, however, is thought to be tempted by a move to clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, and has come close to leaving on a number of occasions in the past.

United are thought to be growing impatient with De Gea's reluctance to sign a new deal, and see this offer as take-it-or-leave-it, with Woodward not willing to increase the wages any further.

A source at the club said: "It has been frustrating because talks have been on-going for quite a while.

"At times it has felt like we've taken two steps forward then two steps back. We want to reach a conclusion."

Nobody could doubt the Spanish international's value to United. He won the club's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for three consecutive seasons between 2013-14 to 2015-16 and has inspired United towards a Premier League title, an FA Cup, a League Cup and a Europa League title during his time at Old Trafford.

Last season, however, his form took a dip, and he made big mistakes against the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Chelsea, with some of the belief that speculation over his future was distracting him.

This led some supporters to call for backup goalkeeper Romero to replace him, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still clearly feels De Gea will return to his best form, and is determined to keep him at the club.
