Unai Emery reveals his "trust" in Petr Cech - despite impending Chelsea move

Unai Emery insists he “trusts” Petr Cech to help Arsenal win the Europa League - even though he is set to rejoin Chelsea straight after the final.

Gunners boss Emery declined to say who will start in goal but Cech expects to face his former club in Baku despite being offered a job as technical director at Stamford Bridge.

It has caused concern among Arsenal fans over who should be in goal as it will be Cech’s last game before he retires and Bernd Leno has established himself as No1 in the Premier League.

But Cech, 37, trained with the keeper coach while Leno and No3 Dejan Iliev were in goal to face shooting practice at the end of the session in Baku.

Emery said: “I respect him a lot. His career is amazing. First as a person, second like a professional goalkeeper. He deserves trust in him.

“Because his career says to us he is a gentleman. Tomorrow he can start or not start. I am going to decide. But both will be with respect. How we cannot believe in him?

“I can speak about Petr Cech a lot. He is a great man, great professional, nice in his behaviour, it will be the last match tomorrow and I want to do something important with him in the last moment of his career. We want to win for us.”

Arsenal trained in Baku on Tuesday and top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave fans a scare by wearing a big bandage on his wrist.

But it is understood that Aubameyang fell in training, hurt his wrist but there is no concern about his fitness and he will be fit to start.

Arsenal have returned more than 2,000 tickets from their 6,000 allocation because of difficulties in getting to Azerbaijan but Emery insisted that the fans in the stadium can help them to glory and win their first European trophy in 25 years.

Emery added: “They have their reason to play here. I must respect this decision. I prefer to play with our supporters here, that a lot can come from London. But it’s difficult for this flight.

“It’s a big amazing stadium full of supporters from Arsenal and Chelsea football fans. We know we are going to play with our supporters here and in London.”
