He will be the second foreign coach to lead the Brewers in two seasons

The Ugandan was at Sofapaka from 2013 to 2015 before leaving.

Ugandan coach Sam Timbe is back in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) after signing a two-year deal with former champions Tusker.

Timbe is a former Sofapaka coach having handled the club between 2013 and 2015 and leading them to win the domestic cup.

Tusker Chief Executive Charles Obiny said they were delighted to have Timbe in the team and remained confident he would turn around their fortunes.

“He is a very experienced coach and has worked in KPL before and so has what it takes to take us where we want to go,” said Obiny.

Timbe started work yesterday at Ruaraka where he replaces fellow Ugandan George Nsimbe who was sacked at the end of this season.

The Tusker official has at the same time defended their decision to let go of 14 players, insisting that this will not affect their performance.

“We are not under any pressure to win the league this season and have given our new coach the task of rebuilding the team. It was necessary to let go of the 14 players as we were not getting any more value from them and we want to work with those who remained,” he said.

In other transfer news, Kakamega Homeboyz have boosted their squad after signing Noah Wafula and Allan Wanga. The two were formerly with Tusker. While Wafula was released by the Brewers, Wanga did not renew his contract.

Homeboyz who finished fifth last season are strengthening their squad in a bid to do even better and club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula said the two players are a big boost.

“We are looking forward to an even greater season especially after the Kakamega county government confirmed their sponsorship for our team. By signing the two players, we have a realistic chance of fighting for the title,” he said.

Shimanyula said: “I want to ask the national government to compel counties to take over the sponsorship of KPL teams affected by withdrawal of SportPesa. This is the most sustainable way of ending the perennial cash problems faced by teams,” he said.

Gor Mahia will have to navigate the tough Champions League terrain without their long-serving captain Musa Mohammed who has left the club to join FK Tirana in Albania.

An Albanian newspaper confirmed the transfer on Tuesday. Former Gor Mahia coach Jose Marcelo is the head coach at FK Tirana. Kenneth Muguna another Gor Mahia midfielder is also headed to the Albanian club.
