Harambee Stars goalkeeper Arnold Origi has officially acquired Norwegian citizenship.

Under Norwegian law, it is in principle not permitted to have dual citizenship.  A person who applies for Norwegian citizenship must therefore renounce his/her former citizenship.

The former Mathare Fc and Tusker Fc custodian went to Norway in 2007 where he has played for various clubs there before applying for Norwegian citizenship.

The 33-year-old has been playing for Lillestrom since 2013 where he has made 104 appearances for the Norwegian side.

Football Kenya Federation CEO Mr. Robert Muthomi has confirmed the illegibility of Origi playing for Harambee Stars from now henceforth.

"We have been informed by the player that he has acquired Norwegian nationality and was forced to give up his Kenyan passport as Norway does not allow for dual citizenship. For this reason we have decided to drop him from the team," he said.

Having lost Kenyan citizenship, Origi cannot play for Kenya and neither is he eligible to play for Norway as he has already represented Kenya at the senior level.

Origi was first called to the national team in 2006 and was the first choice goalkeeper until 2015. He has 32 caps for the national team.

Origi was among the 13-foreign based players called ahead of Harambee Stars' friendlies against Mauritania, Togo and Mozambique.

The team goes to camp on Sunday and will leave for Maputo at the end of this month.

Coach Okumbi will be hoping to use the three friendlies as build-up for the 2019 Nations Cup qualifiers. Stars lost the first match 2-1 to Sierra Leone and will host Ghana next year in Nairobi. They will then travel to Ethiopia for the third match.
