As we sing that Barcelona became the first ever club to overcome a huge last 16 1st leg defeat(4-0) in the 2nd leg (5-6) in the UEFA Champions league history, the Wednesday referee from Germany Deniz Ayetkin risks being demoted from the top profile matches in UCL following the decision by the officials.

Ayetkin denied Di Maria a penalty and later awarded two to Barcelona(one converted by Messi and another by Neymar) before a late offside goal which made the tally to 6-1, seeing the Catalans through through to the last 8.

The German national will not referee any UCL match this season and although the sanction might not be servere he might be demoted to a much low-profile matches in UCL.

He was among the top elite referees in Europe.
