Wenger interested in signing Man Utd target- Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe

Arsene Wenger has revealed Arsenal made an approach for Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe last year.

The 18-year-old has shot to stardom with the Ligue 1 leaders, scoring 13 goals this term.

Mbappe only made his debut last season but has already attracted interest from both Manchester clubs and Arsenal .

And Wenger has revealed the Gunners tried to land the teenager, who he has likened to Thierry Henry, a year ago.

"I approached him last year because I really believe that he has an exceptional future ahead of him,” he said in his press conference ahead of the Lincoln clash

"Unfortunately today, all these young players are in full view from very, very early on and all the big clubs want them.

“I hope the fact that everybody is already talking of nobody but him isn’t going to have a negative impact on his future.”

Arsenal's all-time leading scorer Henry started his career with Monaco and Wenger can see plenty of similarities with Mbappe.

“He reminds me of a young Thierry Henry with the same clever look about him.

"They have the same qualities of intelligence in his movement and finishing.
