Tottenham believed to be considering move for Manchester United's Anthony Martial

Tottenham are tracking Anthony Martial’s uncertain situation at Manchester United.

Spurs are aware that France forward Martial is not a regular under Jose Mourinho and could offer him an escape in the summer.

The 21-year-old impressed on his return to the United league side in their 2-0 Watford win on Saturday, scoring one and setting up the other, after failing to feature in their previous three league games.

It was his first league start in almost a month and he only featured in one of United’s five games before the Watford clash, the 4-0 FA Cup win over Wigan. But he still has work to do to win over over Mourinho and prove he has a long-term United future.

Martial enjoyed a brilliant 17-goal debut campaign at Old Trafford last year under Louis van Gaal, but has failed to hit the same heights this term.

He has been in and out of the side with new boss Mourinho at times questioning his focus and application, last month accusing Martial of failing to grab his chance to nail down a regular spot this season.

His fall down the United pecking order this season has alerted Spurs.

There is set to be even more competition for attacking places at United next season, with the Reds optimistic of signing Martial’s international team-mate Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.

Spurs will be in the market for a forward with the pace and ability to beat players this summer, and Martial is one who could fit the bill.

Ironically, they had held talks with Monaco about signing Martial in 2015 before United swooped in and snapped him up for an initial £36m.

Lopez is on a season-long loan from Spain's Espanyol and highly-rated by manager Mauricio Pochettino, a former boss of the Barcelona side - but is yet to make a first-team outing.
