Football Kenya Federation (FKF) marked one year in office on Thursday by disbursing Sh2 million grant to its 20 branches.

This is part of the Sh8 million grant that will go to the branches this year. This is the first time that the branches are receiving a grant from the national office.

The federation’s president Nick Mwendwa who issued out a Sh2 million cheque to the branches on Thursday said the balance of Sh6 million will be paid in two tranches.

He said this will be an annual event and the branches are expected to benefit even more when the national office gets more sponsorship.

“The National Executive Committee passed a resolution that the branches will receive 10 per cent of the value of every sponsorship that we sign. This is something we will be doing every year. It is not much for a start but it will get better as more sponsors come on board,” he said.
Mwendwa said the money will be used on football development initiatives at the grassroots level.

“This money is for supporting football at the grassroots because that is where football in the country begins and I want to call for good use of the money as we work on getting more from partners to continue growing the game,” he said.

Mwendwa also said that the federation was now in good books with Fifa in terms of disbursement of finances.

“When we came into office, we found lot of things in disarray and Fifa had stopped sending us grants due to auditing queries. I am happy that the embargo has now been lifted and we have started receiving the annual grants,” he said.

Mwendwa also said the federation has been working with the government and in the last one year, the Ministry of Sports has sponsored all national teams going for international tournaments.

“We have also done well in the development arena by employing a Technical Director who is rolling out coaching courses in various parts of the country. In the next three years, all KPL coaches will have a CAF ‘A’ licence,” he said.
