Action at the ongoing Nairobi Governor’s Cup

Nairobi FC wiped the floor with Santos Hotspurs in the Nairobi Governor’s Cup, Pangani Ward, and quarterfinal contest at Pumwani grounds at the weekend.

Nairobi FC won the one sided encounter 3-0 with Martin Kelvin put the winners ahead just in the 14th minute of play. Evans Okumu added a brace in the 67th and 88th minute to seal the victory.

At the same time, it was a painful exit for hosts Mihang’o FC who were sliced 1-0 by Kinsan FC in the battle for Embakasi East constituency at the Mihang’o Primary School ground.

Amani FC had a safe passage to the semis with a similar 1-0 win over resilient Chezidek United.

The solitary goal in the see-saw duel was notched by Steven Kamau in the 17th minute.

Renowned former footballers George Sunguti, Josphat Murila, Allan Thigo, and Alex Mwangi were present at Mihang’o to identify and select talents. “We are glad that the teams paraded some of their best players. We will go round in all the constituencies to identify top talent who will make the final list of 32 players to form the Nairobi County football team,”said Sunguti.

“We are emulating our counterparts in Uganda who have a strong team playing in the Ugandan top league. We also applaud Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero for this initiative and for his pledge to sponsor the yet to be formed team,” Sunguti added.

Kidero, who graced the Mihang’o contests, advised the players and the youthful fans to shun abuse of alcohol and drugs.

Kidero was accompanied by area Member of County Assembly Paul Kados, among others.
