Man United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan wins Armenian Footballer of the Year

Henrkh Mkhitaryan has been named the Armenian Footballer of the Year - but now wants to make history with Manchester United.

Mkhitaryan has now won his national award seven times with this year's being the sixth in a row, report the Manchester Evening News.

The seven awards have come from his time at Armenian outfit FC Pyunik, Ukrainian side's Metalurh Donetsk and Shakhtar Donetsk, German team Borussia Dortmund and now United.

And Mkhitaryan, who has 19 goals in 61 appearances for his national team, said wants to create more history for both club and country now.

The 27-year-old wrote on his Facebook page: "I feel honoured to have won my 7th Armenian Player of the Year award!

"Thank you to the Armenian FA, my clubs, my fans and media representatives for believing in me!"

Mkhitaryan is currently out with an ankle injury sustained in a goal-scoring performance vs Tottenham but may return against Sunderland on Boxing Day.

He initially struggled for game time at Old Trafford but looked like he was asserting himself on the first team squad before sustaining the injury.

But the summer signing added that he now wants to create history for both club and country.

Mkhitaryan added: "I have devoted my whole life to football and achieved significant milestones, yet I feel I can still create more history for my club Manchester United and Armenia, a country which I love dearly and is always on my mind."

The award isn't the only national team gong won by a United star this year, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic winning his 11th Swedish Footballer of the Year gong for 2016.
