Defending champions Gor Mahia continued with their recent impressive run in the Kenyan Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Muhoroni Youth at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu, yesterday.

Former KPL player of the year George Odhiambo and Jacques Tuyisenge scored in either half to extend Gor’s winning streak to three games.

However, the hosts were forced to finish the game with one man less after midfielder Ernest Wendo was sent off in the 75th minute for a second bookable offence.

The victory saw the 15-time Kenyan champions go level on points (20) with Posta Rangers, but leapfrogged the Mailmen into third place becaue of a better goal difference.

Rangers have an opportunity to return to the third place today, when they battle with AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium.

Gor started the brighter side and were rewarded just after seven minutes when Odhiambo received a pass from Khalid Aucho to beat the advancing Muhoroni goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo.

This came just moments after his captain Musa Mohammed’s goal from Innocent Wafula’s looped ball had been ruled offside.

Godfrey Walusimbi could have doubled the lead on the half hour mark, but the Ugandan international squandered the golden chance from Tuyisenge’s delivery.

Muhoroni first shot on target came in the 37th minute through Kennedy Rono’s attempt, but it was well dealt by goalkeeper Bonface Oluoch.

Moses Arita had an opportunity to draw level after the break, but his effort was deflected for a fruitless corner.

But in the 58th minute, Tuyisenge combined with Aucho to launch a counter attack, then shrugged off his marker, Paul Muchika and powered home past the goalkeeper to take his season’s goal tally to six.

Elsewhere, Sony Sugar continued with their resurgence under new coach Salim Babu by beating Sofapaka 1-0 at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The all-important goal of the game was scored by Samuel Otieno on the stroke of halftime.

In Awasi, David Ojwang cancelled out David Kingatua’s opener to snatch a point for Chemelil Sugar against visiting Bandari.

Ojwang headed in the equaliser for Chemelil Sugar in the 54nd minute after good work by Victor Majid. Kingatua had scored for Bandari in the 35th minute.

The result means Bandari coach Twahir Muhiddin is still a man under pressure as he has failed to find consistency in his team.

At Kasarani, Nairobi City Stars and Ushuru shared the spoils after the match ended in a barren draw.
