Falcao blames Van Gaal for unsuccessful season on loan at Old Trafford

Radamel Falcao has hit out at Louis van Gaal for not giving him enough game time at Manchester United.

The 30-year-old joined United in a summer transfer deadline day loan move from Monaco and began brightly, creating a goal for Robin van Persie on his full debut and scoring the winner against Everton in his fourth appearance.

However, the Colombian faced intense competition from Wayne Rooney and Van Persie in a campaign Van Gaal eventually ended with one striker up front, and Falcao made just 17 starts, scoring four goals.

United announced they would not make his loan permanent on the last day of the season and the former Atletico Madrid striker has endured a more chastening loan campaign at Chelsea, where he has not played since October 31, report the Manchester Evening News.

“It was complicated in Manchester. Everyone saw how there were situations which created instability, since I played on some days, not on others,” Falcao told El Tiempo.

“It was 60 minutes today, then 45, then 20 – that generates instability and sometimes you don’t know where you stand or what the footballing preferences of the coach are.

“It’s been difficult. I had been used to playing regularly. After the knee surgery [at Monaco] I went to Manchester United, who were starting a new process after 25 years with the same coach, with a lot of new players and I did not have the opportunity I expected.”

Falcao is expected to return to parent club Monaco, whom he joined for £52m in 2013, in the summer.
