Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia start the post-Frank Nuttall era today when they face their unpredictable hosts Nairobi City Stars, at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Assistant coach Frank Ouna will be temporarily in charge for Gor as they seek their first win of the season ahead of the arrival on Monday of the new coach Jose Marcello.

It will be a first meeting between City Stars head coach John “Bobby” Ogolla and Gor Mahia since the former ditched them at the end of last season.

Both teams have had stuttering starts this season as they are yet to register wins. K’ogalo are winless in their last seven competitive matches (three points from four league matches) that culminated to the resignation of Nuttall after last Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to their arch rivals AFC Leopards.

But having seen City Stars register their second draw of the season against Chemelil Sugar last weekend, Ogolla is relishing the prospects of clashing with Gor Mahia, but insists that all pressure is now on his former employers.

“The match (against Gor Mahia) is significant because they are my former employers,” said Ogolla.

“My players need to play with all their hearts. I have been at Gor and I know how they react after a loss.

“The pressure is on them to assert themselves and I just want the boys to be relaxed and to go and enjoy themselves,” added Ogolla.

In other matches today, Posta Rangers face a tricky trip to Mumias Sports Complex against their fellow new comers Kakamega Homeboyz as Ulinzi Stars and Western Stima face off in Nakuru.

“It is a tough match. Both teams were promoted the same year, so expect it to be a cracker. But we must remained focused and give our best to get good results,” said Rangers leading scorer Timothy Otieno.

Relegation threatened Sony Sugar will be the hosts of Muhoroni Youth in Awendo in a match that could determine the future of embattled Sony coach Leonard Odipo.

Tomorrow, league leaders AFC Leopards host Chemelil Sugar at Nyayo.
