Manchester United in transfer talks over Benfica's rising-star

The 18-year-old is seen as one of the best prospects in European football and has a buy-out clause of £60m - though it's felt he can be signed for far less

Goal-shy Manchester United are weighing up a £22million move for Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches.

The 18-year-old is seen as one of the hottest young prospects in Europe and one of the world game's 50 best players under-20 after breaking into his club’s first team.

Sanches is an attacking midfielder who has 40 international caps at youth level but has yet to break into the Portugal senior team.

He joined Benfica’s youth system at the age of nine and is able to play through the middle or out wide.

The Old Trafford club have met Benfica officials to discuss the youngster after having him watched in a number of games this month.

Although Sanches signed a new contract until 2021 last year and has a £60m buyout clause, it is believed a deal could be struck for him for less than half that amount.
