Pressure is mounting on Donald Kipkorir to quit as chairman of the FKF election board. To actualise their threat, a section of football stakeholders went to the Sports Tribunal yesterday to demand his removal.

Tom Alila, a national executive committee member from Nyanza fired the first salvo at Kipkorir in a letter he sent on Monday, demanding that he steps aside.

“I am writing to you as a NEC member duly elected from Nyanza. It has come to my knowledge that the process, which the AGM tasked you to perform as independent electoral board member, is in jeopardy.

"You have decided to collude with the chairman and some members of your board and a few NEC members to scuttle this process of providing Kenyans free and transparent elections,” said Alila.

Kipkorir did not respond to our message when we sought his comment. The problems started when Kipkorir demanded the removal of two board members, David Mereka and Tindi, accusing them of alleged insubordination.

“When the presidential aspirants met the board, you did not attend, but decided to attend the meeting called by Nyamweya and selected NEC members. I would like to inform you that the independent board is not part of the federation, but is directly answerable to the AGM,” said Alila.

“You have also asked for removal of board members appointed by AGM. I wish to inform you that you do not have such powers. The NEC, too, does not have powers to do so. You have decided to take sides in this election and take the aspirants participating in this exercise for granted.

“By this email, if you are not up to task to give Kenyans a fair election, I am asking you to step aside. We will take this matter to sports tribunal for further action,” he said.
