Nakuru All Stars coach Peter Okidi believes his team can end Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run when the two sides meet today, but has called on fair officiating in the encounter.

Respected centre referee Nasor Doka will handle the match that kicks off at 5pm at the Nyayo National Stadium.

“My boys love to play big games and if all goes well, we will beat Gor Mahia. We have very good strikers who are young and hungry and given a fair chance we can win this one.

“I am disappointed that against Ulinzi Stars and Sofapaka, the match officials influenced the results and we hope it will not happen again today,” he said.

Against Ulinzi Stars, the soldiers came from two goals down to win 3-2 while Sofapaka fought back from three goas down to force a 3-3 draw against All Stars last Friday.

Nakuru All Stars go into this fixture motivated by the results they have picked in the last two matches.

The team beat AFC Leopards 2-1 two weeks ago and nearly caused another upset last Friday after going ahead by three goals only to allow Sofapaka to recover and pick a point from a six goal thriller.

Experienced Patrick Oboya and Hillary Echesa remain their biggest hopes for goals. Coach Peter Okidi will also be delighted that goalkeeper Shaban Odhonji is operating at his best and will be keen to stop Gor Mahia strike force.

Gor Mahia are already counting down to a third consecutive title. With an impressive 55 points collected so far, Gor Mahia are expected to be confirmed champions if they win their next four matches starting today with today’s encounter against Nakuru All Stars.

Going into this match, Gor Mahia head coach Frank Nuttall who was missing in action at the weekend told the club’s official website he was delighted to have picked maximum points in a short time.

“I was delighted to take nine points last week from three games in six days. It once again shows that we are a very focused group.

“That focus will continue as we prepare for our next opponents on Wednesday,” said Nuttall.

Nuttall said he expects a tough match against All Stars and remains optimistic of collecting maximum points.

“The players and staff must be very focused and determined to get the three points,” he added.

Nuttall further said that influential defender Harun Shakava is doubtful for the match after picking an injury against City Stars on Sunday. “We are monitoring the player and will make a final decision on Wednesday,” he said.

Youthful and towering striker Michael Olunga will be looking to add to his goals tally in the match. Olunga has so far scored 15 times and is eager to catch up with top scorer Jesse Were who has 19.

It is worth noting that Were has not scored in the last three weeks and the Tusker forward is currently in South Africa undergoing trials at Bidvest.

The combination of Olunga and Meddie Kagere will be a dangerous forward line capable of destroying any back line and their opponents will do well to avoid conceding many goals.
