Manchester City considered audacious Di Maria approach

Manchester City were reportedly ready to move for Angel Di Maria - if they failed to sign Raheem Sterling.

As we know, the 20-year-old completed his £49m move from Liverpool yesterday but things could have been so different.

According to the Telegraph, City investigated the possibility of luring United's Di Maria across Manchester.

Despite the Argentine's struggles since his record arrival, it would surely be unthinkable for United to flog him to their rivals.

It is claimed that Di Maria's unhappiness in England ensured that a move back to the continent would be the only option.

PSG are front-runners to sign the winger and would be willing to pay £45m to get him.
