KCB is staring down the relegation tunnel and there seem to be no way out. The bankers fell 1-0 to Bandari on Saturday, their second straight loss, to stay third from bottom in the Kenyan Premier League with 13 points from a possible 48. With Football Kenya Federation maintaining four teams will be relegated from the top tier league ahead of an 18-team league next year, KCB who have avoided the chop in the last two seasons appear to be deep hole this time round.

“There is a worrying lack of ambition at KCB by the powers that be,” Former KCB midfielder Fred Arocho, now a radio and TV pundit said after Bandari completed a double over the bankers on Saturday.

“It is a pity that bosses at KENCOM House feeling nothing about this yet they can do more financially to ensure the club, technical bench and its players are supported in every way possible,” he said.

Arocho rallied behind the frozen out goalkeeper Caleb Adola who recently questioned the ambition of the club after they sold several top players for a song.

“They sold good players like Kiongera (Paul), Osumba (Brian), Alwanga (Clifford), John Odhiambo, Keli (Jacob) and more recently Musana Ronald has also departed.

“It tells you the level of ambition at the club is quite low because retaining that calibre of players can make a team win important trophies,” Adola said.

According to Arocho, Adola is justified if recent results are anything to go by.

“It is a pity that 20 years after we helped the club earn promotion, they best they can do today is fight to avoid relegation. I think Adola is fully entitled to his opinion,” Arocho said.

No fewer than four coaches have gone through the coaching door at KCB, but little by way of results and challenging for honours.

Recently coach Rishadi Shedu lamented the failure of the club’s signings to gel and has since stated his intentions to sign new players in the current short transfer window.

Athman Buki, Andrew Kulecho, George Banda and Elly Asieche have joined the Thika Road-based outfit, but Arocho contends the club must do more but signing players with pedigree.
